Bumper feeder

I had this bumper feeder leftover from a golf cart I used on an old deer lease but I needed a bracket in order to mount it to the front of the Scout. My friend Scott fabricated this excellent hitch mount bracket for me so all I had to do was run some wire through the firewall into the cab and then mount a switch in the dash to remote operate the broadcast motor on the feeder.

Receiver hitch mounted basket

This receiver hitch mounted basket is one of the most useful accessories I have ever purchased for any of my SUV's. I have used this to haul many deer from the field back to camp or the processor. I also use it to haul gear to the deer lease. I have even used it quite a few times around town to haul plants and other messy or oversized items.

Gun Rack

I bought this gun rack from Cheaper Than Dirt via the internet. It cost about $60. and is sturdy as hell. It mounts with a floor plate and the rack attaches with 6 wing nuts making it readily removable. It is also adjustable forward and back so you can get the angle of mounting you want.

Adding snaps to the top

While the top was in great shape when I bought the Scout, in fact it appeared virtually new, it fastened down with a series of rubber strips which were very difficult to secure (almost impossible in cold weather). So I asked the guys at ASM Auto Uphosltery to replace the rubber strips with metal snaps. It definately secures much quicker and easier now.

Reupholstery seats

New upholstery...

I kept the seat frames that came with the Scout since they were in good shape... I'm not sure if they are original or not? But the vinyl needed replacing so I went to ASM Auto Upholstery in Dallas. I wanted something inexpensive, water proof and durable. They recommended a heavy duty, thick marine grade vinyl and since the interior of the Scout is now all black and white, we selected a black vinyl. They knocked out the work in less than a week and they did a great job. The cost for both front seats and the rear bench was under $700.

New exhaust system

I took the Scout into Ken's Muffer's on Northwest Highway near Bachman Lake. You can't miss the giant "Muffler Man" out front - it's virtually a Dallas icon. Ken's has been in business for a long time and they have a reputation for doing a great job for a fair price. They took a good look and decided that a complete system was in order... all new pipe front to back and a new muffler. Now the Scout sounds and runs great. And no more breathing exhaust fumes from a leaky tailpipe!
